And while the vehicle is at a stop, the engine shuts off and the battery-powered motor-generator unit powers accessories, preserving fuel so it can be used later.

15 kW Motor-Generator Unit

Owning the 2013 Malibu Eco means you get a smarter drive. When the car is stopped, it automatically switches from using gas to energy from the lithium-ion battery. The motor-generator unit brings the engine to a smooth stop and prepares it for a seamless start when the brake pedal is released.
